Micah and his buddy Dalton were in the creek behind our house from dawn to dusk.  They caught crawdads and frogs, made up war games and played Davy Crockett.  And then right after lunch, they came running in with a huge catch…a turtle.  It was about a foot long and at least 8 inches wide.  Micah is an avid reader of all things science and biology.  He quickly said in a very matter-of-fact manner, “Dad, this is an Eastern box turtle…male…you can tell because of the stripes on his neck.”  Dalton quickly piped up, “We named him Steve Edwin.  We call him Snaps for short”.  It was awesome.  It’s the simple things right?

It was about 6 o’clock in the evening and it was time for Dalton to go home.  His dad Gregg and I noticed that his backpack was a bit more full than it should be.  Gregg looked at me and said quietly, “My son looks guilty, I sense a confession coming on”.  Then immediately Dalton looked up with an “uh oh” look that seemed to give away the internal conflict he was dealing with.  Then came the predicted confession. He opened his backpack and with one hand he pulled Snaps out of the backpack and hoisted him in the air.  “I have to take him home!”.  Gregg and I almost fell on the ground.  There’s some great spiritual truth here or life lesson that I will draw from for teaching or writing but for now, I’m just going to enjoy the purity of that moment.  God shows up in the most unique ways and surprises us with joy.  This moment came at such a great time.

I hope you have a fun moment today.
